Toujeo is a long-acting insulin used to control high blood sugar levels in adults with diabetes. It is typically used in combination with a short-acting insulin or oral diabetes medication. Toujeo is typically administered once a day, at the same time each day, through subcutaneous injection (under the skin). It is used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus and adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Side effects
Toujeo, like other insulins, may cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) as well as other side effects. Common side effects of Toujeo include:
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
- Weight gain
- Injection site reactions such as redness, itching, or swelling
- Swelling in the hands or feet
- Headache
- Dizziness
Serious side effects of Toujeo may include:
- Low blood sugar that can be life-threatening
- Serious allergic reactions
- Skin thickening or pits at the injection site (lipodystrophy)
- Blurred vision
