Introduction
Rocephin is the brand name for the antibiotic ceftriaxone.
Uses
It is given as an injection and is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including:
- Respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia)
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Sexually transmitted infections (such as gonorrhea)
- Septicemia (a serious blood infection)
- Meningitis (an infection of the lining of the brain and spinal cord)
It can also be used as a prophylactic (preventative) treatment before certain types of surgery to prevent infection.
